Weeks 11, 12, & 13: 3/16-4/3
All WCPSS schools closed. All online work is provided by the district and optional at this time.
Teachers will begin providing mandatory online work starting the week after Spring Break, 4/13-4/17.
Week 10: 3/10-3/13
Monday - No school -- Teacher Work Day.
Tuesday - Today students finished their Fascism, Rise of Hitler, and Nazi Germany Jigsaw. As a class, we discussed the impact of the Great Depression and the end of World War I on Germany's political climate during the Interwar period.
Wednesday - Today students began to review Unit 8 -- Interwar by creating a timeline of major events/ideas from the 1920s and 1930s.
Thursday - Today students finished their review timelines in class. Students will take their Unit 8 test tomorrow.
Friday - Today students took their Unit 8 -- Interwar test. When they finished the test, they were given their Unit 9 Vocabulary Activity.
** Our Unit 8 (Interwar) Test has been moved to FRIDAY, 3/13.
Week 9: 3/2-3/6
Monday - Today students had a DBQ Work Day. If they finished their DBQs, they were to grab a copy of the Unit 8 vocab to work on. This vocab is due on Wednesday, 3/4.
Tuesday - Today students debriefed their DBQ activity about the Treaty of Versailles. We then began looking at Interwar Economics -- The Great Depression and it's effects on The United States and Europe. Students completed a stations activity to learn more about the economy of Germany following the Treaty of Versailles and the Great Depression.
Wednesday - Today, our FABULOUS counselors at AFMS came in to provide a lesson on study skills!
Thursday - Today, students finished their stations activity from Tuesday. We then took some brief guided notes on the economic happenings throughout the Interwar period.
Friday - Today, students completed a Jigsaw activity to learn about fascism, the rise of Hitler, and Nazi Germany. Students will take their Interwar Tests on Thursday, 3/12.
Week 8: 2/14-2/28
Monday - Today students reviewed America's entry into WWI. We then took some time to read about the Treaty of Versailles and analyze some of the articles within that peace treaty. Our WWI test has been moved to Wednesday, 2/26.
Tuesday - Today students completed a GooseChase activity to review for their WWI tests tomorrow.
Wednesday - Today students took their World War I test.
Thursday - Today we began Unit 8: The Interwar Period! Students brainstormed what they knew about the 1920's and 1930's. We then completed a timeline activity to learn about the various events leading up to the Russian Revolution.
Friday - Ms. Hnatt out. Students completed a DBQ (Document-Based Questions) activity to analyze the impacts of the Treaty of Versailles.

Wednesday - Today students finished their debrief of Friday's trench warfare activity. They then completed a webquest to learn about other weapons/war strategies of WWI.
Thursday - Today students took guided notes on America's entry into World War I.
Friday - No school due to inclement weather. Happy Snowy Day! :)
Week 6: 2/10-2/14
Monday - Today, students finished reading their articles that included the details of the events leading up to World War I. They worked in pairs to answer questions about the article and created a timeline of the major events leading up to war.
Tuesday - Today students took guided notes on the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. They then worked in pairs to color and label a map of European territories and alliances in 1914.
Wednesday - We did not have Core 3 or 4 today due to Math Benchmark testing.
Thursday - Today students read an article about the European entry into WWI.
Friday - Today students engaged in a (safe) simulation of trench warfare! Students had to create "trenches" for their teams. They would then answer questions to gather "ammo" (balled up pieces of paper) to throw at the other trench. By the end of the activity, students were able to understand the futility of using trench warfare in combat.
Week 5: 2/3-2/7
Monday - Today we began a stations activity to focus on the I in MAIN -- Imperialism.
Tuesday - Today we completed our stations activity that focused on Imperialism.
Wednesday - Today students read and annotated an article that included the details of the events leading up to World War I. Students worked in pairs to answer questions about the article and create a timeline of the major events leading up to war.
Thursday - School let out early due to inclement weather, no Cores 3 or 4 today!
Friday - No school due to damages from Thursday's storm. See you Monday!

Monday - Today students had a test review day! They completed a study guide to help them review the major concepts and ideas from Unit 6. Students will take their Industrialism test tomorrow.
Tuesday - Today students took their Unit 6 test on Industrialism.

Thursday - Today we began our unit on WWI. We began by learning about the 4 MAIN causes of WWI: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism.
Friday - Today we continued to discuss the 4 MAIN causes of WWI.

Monday - No school. Happy MLK Jr Day!
Tuesday - Today we learned about the changes in technology during the Industrial Revolution. Students completed a gallery walk activity where they took a look at 8 major inventions from the Age of Industrialism. Then, they took some time to answer reflection questions and evaluate which invention they believed was the most influential.
Wednesday - Today we learned about the changes in the economy during the Industrial Revolution. We took notes on four economic systems: Traditional, Command, Market, and Mixed. We then engaged in a simulation (with candy, of course!) to demonstrate what capitalism is like.
Thursday - Ms. Hnatt was out sick today. Students completed a reading about the different economic systems. When they finished reading, they were to answer the questions on their handouts.
Friday - Today we completed a Jigsaw activity to learn about the international relationships that changed as the Industrial Revolution occurred. Students will be taking their Unit 6 test on Tuesday.

Monday - Today students had the entire class period to continue their research for their Inquiry Project. If they finished early, students were able to begin working on their digital poster. Click here for the example poster.

Thursday - Today students began to study rural to urban migration that was happening in Europe during the Industrial Revolution. Students completed a short reading to introduce the idea. They then engaged in a photo/maps analysis activity to determine migration patterns of European workers from farms to cities.
Friday - Today we played the Urbanization Game! Students were given sheets of poster paper to draw their own small towns. They then were walked through a series of urbanization rounds during which they were to draw more and more houses, tenements, factories, and shops. The result? Some very frustrated 7th graders! This activity allowed students to see the quick nature and urgency of periods of urbanization.

Monday - Welcome back, Chargers! Today in class, students kicked off their newest unit -- The Industrial Revolution! We watched a few video clips and discussed the positive and negative affects of different aspects of The Industrial Revolution.
Tuesday - Today students took notes and answered questions to gather background knowledge on the Industrial Revolution.
Wednesday - Today we dug deeper into the occurrence of child labor during the Industrial Revolution. Students worked together to compete a stations activity where they read articles, looked at images, and made connections to learn more about child labor.
Thursday - Today students went to the Media Center! Mrs. Cassidy helped us kickstart our latest project -- an inquiry-based research project! Students will be brainstorming their own questions that they would like to investigate related to the Industrial Revolution. They will then compile research to try and find an answer to their questions! More information about this project will be given tomorrow.
Friday - Today we were back in the Media Center to continue working on our Inquiry Project! For a link to the project directions sheet, click HERE. Students worked with Mrs. Cassidy to learn about our school research tool, NC WiseOwl. They then had time to begin actually researching their essential questions.
